It’s the battle of the bulge

He filled the vacant spot left by Madrid-bound David Beckham when he signed for Manchester United in 2003 – but it would seem the similarities between Cristiano Ronaldo and Beckham don’t stop there.

Indeed, the Portuguese winger has enjoyed a career comparable to the former England skipper, having followed him to the Bernabeu — albeit two years after Beckham swapped Spain for Southern California and Los Angeles Galaxy.

Like Becks, the moisturised midfielder has also developed separate interests away from the pitch – and he was on hand to launch his latest at Madrid’s Palacio de Cibeles on Thursday.

Ronaldo was attending the official launch of his new underwear range, CR7, and anyone wondering what his debut collection looks like didn’t have to look too far — a 19-metre tall campaign image featuring the chiselled winger in all his glory was suspended above in the landmark building’s renaissance courtyard.

Meanwhile the man in question, never shy about coming forward, was clearly delighted as he posed for photos between its legs.

“I am very proud to officially launch CR7 today and especially to see my campaign image displayed in this beautiful building, one of the most famous landmarks in Madrid,” he said.

How I Met Your Mother fans may get spinoff

Fans of How I Met Your Mother have been dreading the end of the show’s current ninth and final season, but all may not be lost.

A spinoff series has been under discussion that will take a female point of view on the original show.

The spinoff idea has been referred to as How I Met Your Father and comes from the show’s original creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and Up All Night creator Emily Spivey.

The hit CBS ensemble comedy starring Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel and Cobie Smulders entered its final season last month and will wrap up next year.

The spinoff series would feature a new group of friends and chronicle a woman’s attempts to find her future husband, according to a Deadline article published on Wednesday.

How I Met Your Mother made its debut in September 2005 and follows Radnor’s character Ted Mosby as he tries to find the right woman in New York City with the help of his four best friends.

The new characters could be introduced in the show’s series finale and MacLaren’s Pub popular with the current characters also may be featured in the spinoff.

The premise of the show will not be tied to any of the characters currently featured on How I Met Your Mother.

‘I decided to go as something really scary’

Ellen DeGeneres is not one to flash the flesh. But she had something of an original take on the definition of scary – in her case, being seen half-naked.

The talk show host, 55, dressed as Nicki Minaj, wearing the very revealing outfit that the racy rapper wore for her appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show last month.

Nicki wore a little black jacket unbuttoned to display her breasts. And for Halloween, Ellen dressed in a similar outfit, complete with her own set of fake boobs on her chat show.

Looking strikingly like the busty blonde, thanks to her long wig and leather trousers, Ellen is joined on the show by Alison Sweeney who arrived as Christina Aguilera complete with swivel chair from The Voice.

And thankfully unlike Julianne Hough, Ellen decided against the questionable ‘blackface’ make-up.

Joking about Minaj’s scantily clad appearance on her show last month, Ellen says: “Happy Halloween! Welcome to my Halloween Extravaganza! Let me start by saying, my eyes are up here.

“This year I decided to go as something really scary – half naked. Of course I’m Nicki Minaj.

Nicki was on the show a few weeks ago. Her shirt was not. She took my show from a PG rating to a Double D.”
