Girlz to face Canada in CONCACAF U-17 semi-final Thursday
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Canada will be Jamaica’s opponents in Thursday’s semi-finals of the CONCACAF Girls Under-17 tournament after they were beaten 0-2 by defending champions United States in their Group B game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex Monday night.
The USA were winning their third game in a row without conceding a goal to top Group B with maximum nine points and will face Group A runners-up Mexico in the first game set for 3:30pm followed by Jamaica vs Canada.
Canada was second with six points after wins over Guatemala and Trinidad previously, and were held scoreless after scoring 19 goals in their first two games.
Jamaica won Group A with seven points after beating El Salvador and Haiti and drawing with Mexico who finished second with five points.
The winners on Thursday will qualify for the fourth FIFA Girls Under-17 World Cup to be held in Costa Rica in March 2014.
On Monday the prolific Zoe Redei scored in the 36th minute while Mallory Pugh made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute for the US.
