MANDEVILLE, Manchester — A female employee of the National Housing Trust (NHT) who was reportedly abducted at gunpoint from her home in Knockpatrick on Thursday night is alive and apparently well, apart from cuts and bruises, after escaping her captors, police say.

Investigators say 32-year-old Neisha Daley turned up at the Newport Police Station in South Manchester about 5:00 pm yesterday, suffering from cuts and bruises after escaping by breaking through a glass window.

She had been held at a house close to the Wigton Windfarm in Rose Hill, South Manchester, the police say.

A police source told the Jamaica Observer late yesterday afternoon that the victim was receiving medical care as well as counselling from representatives of the Victim Support Unit and the Community Safety and Security Branch of the constabulary, prior to

being interviewed by investigators.

The police said a full-scale hunt was on for those responsible for the alleged abduction, noting that that a $1-million ransom demand said to have been made to relatives of the victim by telephone “was not paid”.

A “clearer picture” of the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction of Daley and her subsequent escape should emerge following the interview by investigators, a senior police source said.

Police report that Daley, said to be a loans officer at the NHT, had arrived home with her two children when she was accosted by gunmen. She was reportedly taken at gunpoint inside her house and laptop computers and other valuables, including jewellery, taken by the gunmen. They then took her away without harming

the children.

Yesterday, the NHT office in Mandeville was closed early, apparently as a result of the incident.
