Boys’ Town clip wings of August Town
BOYS’ Town FC crippled August Town FC with two first-half goals to complete a 2-0 win in yesterday’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match at the UWI Mona Bowl.
The visitors’ victory came courtesy of headed goals from attackers Shane Edwards and Andre Dawson in the 14th and 22nd minutes, respectively.
Boys’ Town, who have had a miserable start to the campaign, moved to eight points, while promoted August Town, who entered the round as the RSPL’s only unbeaten team, remain on 10 points.
Boys’ Town Coach Andrew Price credited his side for “defending stoutly and scoring” to begin the “step in the right direction”.
His opposite at August Town, ‘Max’ Straw, felt his team got the opportunities to get back into the encounter.
“We gave up two goals in the first half, but still had a whole half to fight back,” he told reporters.
Boys’ Town started the match in dire need of three points, and Edwards provided the ideal boost with a well-placed header from Renae Lloyd’s accurate free kick.
Approximately 20 minutes in the game, Boys’ Town could have doubled the lead, but Marvin Stewart’s left-footed shot, from outside the 18-yard box, hit the right upright.
The second goal came soon after for Boys’ Town, when Stewart whipped in a cross from the left side for Dawson to power home with his head despite being closely marked by an opposing defender.
The home team came out more purposeful in the second period in a bid to cut the advantage. They almost got it inside the opening five minutes of the second half, but the lively substitute Lennox Creary booted wide with his favoured left foot, though he had the goal at his mercy.
August Town continued to mount several attacks and they were close again, but Jerome Wedderburn was left holding his head after his left-footed grounder fizzed just wide of goal.
