Alleged robbers attack cop — two shot dead, one escape
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — After allegedly robbing occupants of a Toyota Corolla motorcar and other valuables in Portmore, St Catherine, Thursday morning, three robbers then faced off with a policeman in Spanish Town, also in the parish.
Two of the men were shot dead while the other escaped.
Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) are that the robbery took place about 9:00 am, at which time the police were alerted and an all-point bulletin issued.
The men were reportedly in the Spanish Town area when they apparently recognised a policeman who is assigned to the Flying Squad and was on his way to work.
The CCN say that the men opened fire at the policeman, triggering a gun battle between the cop and the criminals.
When the shooting ended, two of the gunmen were shot dead and a .357 Magnum revolver seized.
The third man reportedly escaped in the community.
The police say the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been informed of this morning’s incident.
