Teams hunt quarter-final spots in rural netball
AT least eight teams, spread across the two divisions, can confirm their places in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Digicel Rural Area Junior and Senior League netball competitions following today’s penultimate set of second-round games.
In the Junior League, champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) should earn the point needed to advance from Group Two when they travel to Belmont Academy in Westmoreland to face Frome Technical, starting at 11:45 am.
STETHS, on nine points, have so far scored three successive victories to share top spot with May Day, who could also seal their berth by avoiding defeat against the lowly St Hilda’s at GC Foster College.
Either Manchester High or Herbert Morrison Technical, the joint Group One leaders, could also advance when they meet in the top-of-the-table clash at Moneague College in St Ann.
Both teams are locked on nine points and the winner of this encounter should also go on to top the group.
Group Three front-runners Denbigh High and Knox College are also favoured to book the two available slots from their pool ahead of their respective opponents, who have both lost two games.
Denbigh meet fellow Clarendon school Edwin Allen at Clarendon Park, while Knox play Oracabessa High at GC Foster.
Holmwood Technical (nine points) and Titchfield High (six) are also tipped to wrap up Group Four with victories against St Mary High and Tacius Golding, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Christiana-based Holmwood should also clinch qualification in the Senior League when they meet Group Four minnows Marymount High at GC Foster College, starting at 11:15 am.
Carline Graham-Powell’s side (nine points) survived their biggest second-round test on Tuesday against Titchfield and should have things much easier against Marymount.
Denbigh, Manchester and STETHS could also advance with victories today.
