‘An accident waiting to happen’
RESIDENTS in Cassia Park and Dunrobin last Friday called on authorities to fix a foot-bridge that was erected close to Dunrobin Primary School.
Residents complain that each day a large number of students use the structure that has fallen into disrepair.
“The bridge is in a deplorable state. It is an accident waiting to happen and we believe that if it is not addressed quickly children who use the structure will get injured,” said Michael Lawson, president of the Half-Way-Tree Benevolent Society.
Carliana Reid, member of the Cassia Park Parenting Group, supported him.
“Children who use the bridge are facing serious risk,” said Reid.
On Friday, during a visit to Dunrobin Primary, one school official said several calls have been made to the authorities to address the problem.
Both the principal and vice-principal declined to speak on the matter. Parents, however, were very vocal.
“We don’t want this to be a case where we wait until one of the students is seriously injured before we act,” said James, a father whose son attends the school.
Sections of mesh that line the base of the bridge have broken away and the metal railings are decaying.
