Court to hear ousted senator’s case today
THE hearing of an application for an injunction to bar Opposition Leader Andrew Holness from filling two Senate posts is to be heard in the Supreme Court today.
The application is to be made by Arthur Williams, the former Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, who is challenging his ouster from the Upper House with an undated resignation letter following the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leadership race of November 10.
The hearing was scheduled for yesterday but was rescheduled in order to give Holness’ attorney Georgia Gibson-Henlin time to respond to documents filed by Williams in his bid to secure the injunction.
Justice Glen Brown is to hear the application. Williams is represented by Dr Lloyd Barnett and Wentworth Charles.
Williams is seeking the injunction against Holness in relation to undated resignation letters signed by Opposition senators at the time of their appointment last year that were used to oust Williams and Dr Christopher Tufton from the Senate last Friday.
