JLP elects Chairman, top positions Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) will on Sunday, December 1 elect its new slate of officers in one of the most anticipated meeting of its Central Executive.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00 am at the party’s Belmont Road headquarters and should end by 5:00 p.m.
JLP Chairman, Deputy Chairman, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretaries are among the top posts up for grabs.
Senator Robert Montague is the current Chairman defeating Members of Parliament Derrick Smith, Delroy Chuck and Edmund Bartlett last time around.
Montague is now up against top contender Smith who has the backing of Team JLP the Andrew Holness-led group in the recent leadership challenge by Audley Shaw.
General Secretary Horace Chang is facing a challenge from Joan Gordon Webley while six people are expected to challenge for the four Deputy General Secretary posts — incumbents Audley Gordon, Dr St Aubyn Bartlett, Homer Davis and Dr Andrew Wheatley, and Richard Creary and Michael Stern.
