Bunji jumps with Soul Train Award
TRINIDADIAN soca star Bunji Garlin won the Soul Train Award for Best International Performance, it was announced Sunday.
Garlin won for his song Differentology. Other contenders in the category were his countryman Machel Montano for The Fog, British singer Emil Sande with Next To Me, Personally by Nigerian Rhythm and Blues duo P-Square, and Ur Waist by Nigerian singer Iyanya.
The last Caribbean act to win a Soul Train award was Jamaican singer Gyptian for the song Hold Yuh in 2010.
The event took place November 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, but the ceremony was broadcast Sunday evening on the BET and Centric cable stations.
Other big winners were Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke (featuring Pharrell and T I) which won Song of the Year, and rapper Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid M.A.A.D City, which was named Album of the Year.
