Tessanne takes Marley magic to The Voice
TESSANNE Chin infused The Voice with Marley magic last night, delivering an excellent rendition of the late reggae superstar’s classic Redemption Song that left viewers with goosebumps.
The Marley song was the first of two numbers performed by Chin (photo) who, in her pre-performance interview, expressed her intention of following in his footsteps.
“It is a very important song to me and my people,” Chin said. “Bob Marley has already created the magic; I just need to go in there and follow his lead.”
Her rendition of the song moved her coach Adam Levine to give her a standing ovation and won sustained applause from the live show audience.
Noting that he was “immersed” and “lost in the song”, Levine said that everybody in Jamaica must be “so proud” of Chin and added: “People now understand the potency of Marley and the potency of Tessanne tonight.”
Chin chose Katy Perry’s Unconditionally for her second performance, punching out the song with great gusto and power that showed her incredible range.
“Your ability is just off the chart,” Levine said.
However, it was the comment of Levine’s rival coach, Blake Shelton, that captured the true essence of Chin’s performance.
“You’re a world class vocalist,” said Shelton. “You can sing with the best vocalists in the world. I haven’t seen anything quite like you on this show.”
