Court to rule tomorrow on Rainford’s case
ROBERT Rainford is to know tomorrow if he will be granted permission to challenge his dismissal as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government for standing surety for accused ponzi scheme fraudster Carlos Hill.
Justice Raymond King late last month reserved his decision on Rainford’s application for leave to apply for Judicial Review of the decision to dismiss him.
An injunction barring Rainford’s replacement in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development from taking up the post, pending the outcome of his lawsuit over wrongful dismissal, was extended until the new date.
Rainford’s job was terminated in September after it was revealed to the public months earlier that he would stand surety for Hill, the former Cash Plus boss who is on a charge of fraud resulting from the collapse of his billion-dollar ponzi scheme.
One of the defendants in the case had said in an affidavit, filed in October, that Rainford was dismissed in error.
The defendants in the suit are Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, the Public Service Commission and the chief personnel officer in the Office of the Services Commission.
