It will be a tension filled today as the quarterfinals of the ISSA/Wata Rural Area Under-14 and Under-16 competitions get underway with several teams still in with a chance of making it to the semi-finals.

With Munro College and Petersfield already sure of their places in the semi-finals from Group B, three teams will be vying for the other two places from Group A in the Under-14 competition while six teams led by reigning all-island champions Cornwall College are still hopeful for a place in the Under-16 competition.

A point would be good enough for a number of teams to advance to Monday’s semi-finals but at least two teams, one in each competition must win if they are to continue in the competition. Two teams from each of the two groups in both competitions will advance today.

The standings after two rounds of matches in the quarterfinal show Grange Hill High and Old Harbour tied on four points in Group A of the Under-14 competition with Clarendon College on three points and Spalding High yet to score a point and are out of the running for a semi-final place.

Munro College and Petersfield High who will meet today, are on four points in Group B; Vere Technical are on two points with Manchester High on zero.

Cornwall College who are unbeaten this season, winning all 11 games played so far, are riding high with maximum six points from two wins followed by Annotto Bay High on three points while Manchester High and Paul Bogle whose game on Tuesday was not played as no officials showed up, are yet to score a point after losing their first game.

St Elizabeth Technical High and Petersfield are tied on four points, one more than Rusea’s High who are coming off a big 8-0 win over winless Seaforth High on Tuesday.

Today, Grange Hill and Old Harbour need only a point when they face Clarendon College and Spalding High respectively in Zone A of the Under-14 competition. Clarendon College could force their way into the next round however with a win over Grange Hill.

In Zone B Munro College and Petersfield will meet to decide the group winners but the latter lead on goal difference and need just a draw.

In the Under-16, Cornwall College has breezed through the competition so far with 11 wins and came from behind to beat Manchester High at Manchester in the first quarterfinal game before ending Annotto Bay’s unbeaten run all season with a 2-0 victory in Montego Bay on Tuesday.

Today they face Paul Bogle high who lost to Annotto Bay last Friday and are still to earn a point in this round but has a game in hand.

Annotto Bay can still advance with a win over Manchester High today.

Rusea’s are coming off a big win and will be hoping for back to back wins when they face Petersfield who need just a draw to make progress.

STETHS should also advance as they will be home in Santa Cruz against Seaforth, losers of two straight, needing just a point to make it to the top four.
