What is your earliest memory of Kingston?
Waking up very early, as a child, and being driven into Kingston from Westmoreland, and seeing the cotton tree at Ferry and knowing we had reached.
What is the most memorable meal you have enjoyed in Kingston?
The dragonfish at the now-defunct Japanese restaurant at the former Hilton Hotel.
What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?
I would set up a sting operation to nab all the mad drivers that create extra lanes and drive people off the road. My secondary task would be removing all the windshield wipers and beggars from the streets and give everyone a break for the day.
What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Take a leisurely drive up to Strawberry Hill for breakfast and lunch. Come back down and have dinner at Marketplace as it affords a variety of cuisine options.
What’s your beverage of choice?
I enjoy three at different intervals. A Sauvignon Blanc, a Scotch on the rocks or a Heineken.
Share the title of the last book you read.
I just finished two. David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell and The Greatness Guide by Robin Sharma.
What cologne are you splashing?
Zegna.
Where are your favourite spots in Jamaica?
I’m a country boy at heart and I relish time spent at the beach, so I’m happy at the beach in Negril, St Elizabeth or Maiden Cay. I’m also a fan of mountainous views, so anywhere high in the hills.
Share some places in your black book.
In Paris, I love sitting at a sidewalk café, sipping wine and watching people pass by. In San Francisco, the Fisherman’s Wharf, and in Boston, sitting at a nice hotel overlooking Boston Common.
What was your last major splurge?
I just bought a house.
What directed your path towards becoming an entrepreneur?
The antithesis of working in government. I went to work in the public sector when I was younger, hoping to change the world, and was quickly disillusioned. I figured if I could change the people around me I could make my own mark, and so decided to establish my own business.
Take the pulse of the nation’s economy and prescribe appropriate medication.
My belief is that we as a nation have too high expectations of our government. Individuals need to inculcate an entrepreneurial spirit and develop more self-reliance.
Warren Buffett or Carlos Slim? Which business titan do you prefer?
Buffet, because he’s more conservative and has strong moral values and doesn’t compromise for anyone. He’s tough but extremely moral.
Is CAC 2000 undertaking any new projects?
CAC saves our customers a lot of money by identifying energy-saving mechanisms. For 2014, we are introducing exciting new products and financing options.
When last did you have a good laugh?
I’m a sucker for comedies and Ive seen There’s Something About Mary maybe a hundred times and saw it again last month.
And a good cry?
Watching a chick flick recently with my wife and daughters. They said, “Daddy, you have a little tear.”
What’s your favourite Christmas movie or TV show?
A Charlie Brown Christmas.
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.
What is your philosophy?
Most of the barriers and obstacles we see are figments of our imagination.
