$5,000 fee to reopen building applications
THE Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) says a fee of $5,000 is required to reopen and continue processing several development approval applications which were closed last month.
In addition to the money, applicants are also expected to submit the outstanding information required by the KSAC.
Speaking on the issue at yesterday’s monthly KSAC Council meeting at its Church Street chambers in downtown Kingston, Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Angela Brown Burke said that on November 27, the KSAC published a list of 113 applications which had been closed.
“These applications were submitted between January and December 2012. Applicants were written to, and advised that additional information was required to complete processing their applications. To date we have not received the information requested,” she said.
The mayor noted that this relates specifically to persons applying to construct buildings or applying for subdivision approvals. “These are really building permits,” she added.
At the same time, Brown Burke said the KSAC has recognised that there are improvements to be made to its application processing system and has begun the review necessary to identify areas which will require strengthening.
“We ask our stakeholders to assist us in this process by providing feedback as we work to improve the system, ” she said.
