Holland, Rio Bueno hunt semi-final spots
RIO BUENO, Trelawny — Defending champion Holland United will take on Rio Bueno FC at the Rio Bueno field today as both teams seek to complete the semi-final line-up in the Trelawny Football Association’s Patrick Atkinson Knock out competition.
Today’s winner will join early qualifiers Salt Marsh United, Clarks Town and Spicy Hill in Saturday’s semi-finals.
The high-flying Holland United, who lead the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rums Western Confederation Super League with back-to-back wins to open the season after brushing aside Baca Stars 5-2 in their first-round game in the Knockout.
Rio Bueno beat Kinloss FC 4-2 in the play-off game before upsetting another Super League club Duanvale United 1-0 in the first round to set up today’s game.
In the other three quarter-final game on Saturday, Salt Marsh hammered Bunkers Hill So Fresh 8-0, Clarks Town beat Invaders 3-0, while Spicy Hill prevailed over Flames 4-2 on penalty kicks after both teams failed to score in regulation and extra time.
