Awesome Code tipped for Trainers’ Association Trophy

Awesome Code tipped for Trainers’ Association Trophy

THE competitiveness of the 10th and penultimate race on the 11-race card at Caymanas Park today, the $715,000 Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy, could serve its designation aptly as programme highlighter being composed for quality performances.

To be contested among a budding group of native-bred three-year-olds (NW2) in the Restricted Allowance II category going 1,200 metres, the JRTA Trophy is set to go to post at approximately 4:30 pm with first post at noon.

Had racing been an exact science, Awesome Code would have been an unrivalled winner, but that not being the case, the promising son of Awesome Power would have to face serious rivalry from his age group competitors during the running of the event.

The presence of the improving fillies Mama Blossom, Shade Of Beauty, Clearly Ours, Greater Glory, Alexander, Water Wave along with the roan gelding, I’m A Believer, highlights how steep the challenge of victory is for Awesome Code as any one of his foregoing rivals has shown enough based on past efforts and preparation to leave a positive impact on the outcome of the event from a determined effort.

Awesome Code, bred, owned and trained by Carl Anderson, showed much pluck when going down to Asia’s Dream at 1,400 metres on November 9 by two-and-half when ridden by Richard Mitchell. With that run under his girt and showing positive signs of improvement in his development, in the interim Awesome Code was stepped up at exercise.

While going through his final preparation, the dark bay gelded son of Code Warning out of Awesome Power (The Medic) gave an indication of what is in store for his rivals: putting down a decent 36 seconds flat work for 600 metres in the mud to end his final workout on Tuesday.

Probably leaving very little to chance, champion and leading rider Dane Nelson has answered the call from trainer Anderson to partner Awesome Code for a positive effort, as the reduction in journey will not adversely affect his victory bid.

Mama Blossom, a dark bay daughter of Distorted out of Tactful Persuasion (Wise Emissary) bred by Ivanhoe Williams, and conditioned by Gary Subratie for owners WB Racing, will be ridden by Omar Walker. Consistent as she is, Mama Blossom has only been able to convert one of her consistent runs into victory. She will, however, report in better shape for this than when finishing behind Awesome Code on last while toting 54.0kg to Awesome Code’s 54.5kg in a race won by Asia’s Dream.

Awesome Code will now carry 56.0kg to Mama Blossom’s 54.0kg and being 2.0kg better off on this occasion Mama Blossom can now turn the tables on her rival, as being somewhat better suited to the shorter trip.
