Nelson leads Walker by four
NELSON...leads jockey’s race

Nelson leads Walker by four

THE main attraction on the nine racecard at Caymanas Park yesterday was the ongoing rivalry for the jockeys’ crown involving champion Dane Nelson and former four-time champion Omar Walker.

When Sunday racing started at 1:00 pm, Nelson was three winners ahead of Walker who immediately set the stage when he won the second race on the Ray Phillips trained Bostress at good odds of 6-1, thereby reducing the lead to two wins. Nelson responded in quick time, riding a peach of a race on Sweet Trail who just got the better of Go Go Yvonne and Deo Volente.

In a ride which characterised his normal bustling movements in the saddle, this time aboard Di Cobre, Nelson drove home the four-year-old chestnut colt to win by half a length. And so it stood at the end of the Sunday race meet — Dane Nelson two winners on the day, Omar Walker, one winner — Dane Nelson four wins ahead of Walker with three racedays left in the year.

In the feature race, the Titania trophy over 1,100 metres for three-year-olds and up filly and mares, non-winners of two, rank outsider Javine at odds of 17-1, with Richard Micthell in the saddle, came from last position in the field of nine, with a storming stretch run to catch and beat another outsider Reign Of Deftiny and Double de Cat third. Warrior Princess ridden by Nelson, finished third but was disqualified and placed behind Joyful Rakota.

Another noteworthy winner was Bars of Gold with the infrequently used Ian Spence in the saddle. Bars of Gold staled the leaders Locked and Loaded and Franfield from way behind and under strong urging just got up to beat Locked and Loaded by a neck with Franfield third.

WALKER… rode one winner yesterday
