Holland hunt third win in Western Confed Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James— Holland United will go after their third straight win today and take control of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rums Western Confederation Super League when they take on Norwood Strikers at the UDC field in Montego Bay starting at 3:00 pm.
With Reno being held 1-1 by promoted Lucea FC on Sunday, Holland United are the only team left in the competition with a perfect win record.
In another game today, Tomorrow’s People and Duanvale FC will both go after their first win when they meet at Jarrett Park, also set to start at 3:00 pm.
At the UDC field today, Norwood Strikers will have the psychological edge that they beat Holland United the last time both teams played at the UDC field.
The teams split their two meetings last season, each winning at home but Holland has started the season with back-to-back wins, scoring seven goals while Norwood Strikers in their second season, have scored just two goals in their two games played so far.
Duanvale, who returned to the Super League for the first time since the 2006-07 season and Tomorrow’s People who were semi-finalists last season, are both off to a slow start, earning just one point in their two games played so far.
Meanwhile, defending champions Wadadah FC continue to struggle while Reno’s perfect start was snapped by Lucea FC.
Wadadah FC were held goalless by Savannah SC in a repeat of the final two seasons ago and are still searching for their first win of the season.
The former Premier League giants, who have been in the Super League for just over 10 seasons, have drawn two and lost one game, scoring just one goal, in their opening game a 1-1 draw against Tomorrow’s People.
The point, meanwhile, keeps Savannah SC in third place on five points as they drew back-to-back games after an opening 2-1 win over Lucea FC.
Lucea, meanwhile, have also carved out back-to-back draws, ending Reno’s good start with a come from behind 1-1 draw at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Denmark Gillings scored a league-leading third goal in the 10th minute to give Reno the lead before Jamie Ramsay levelled the scores in the 27th minute for the home team.
In the other game at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth, Village United got their first points from a 0-0 draw against Granville FC.
In their only meeting last season, Granville had won the game 4-0 as they made a late push for the semi-finals.
