WITH roots in two of America’s most musically diverse states, it is no surprise singer Love Truly’s tastes are eclectic.

On his new song, I Look Forward, the Louisiana-born artiste ventures into reggae with Jamaican singer Alex Marley.

I Look Foward is expected to be on Truly Love, Love Truly’s first album, which is scheduled for release in 2014.

He spoke to the Jamaica Observer recently, while in Kingston, about incorporating different styles.

“I love crossover music. I believe the sounds you create when blending different cultures and genres of music is a wonderful sound,” he said.

Though he was born Harvey Goods in Louisiana, Love Truly was raised in Texas. His influences include soul legends Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson, reggae greats Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff and South African musician Jonathan Butler.

His pop influences can be heard on previous songs, such as Try and Try and Skin. He decided for a change of pace when he met Marley four months ago, and they quickly cut I Look Forward.

“I travelled to Jamaica for the first time in November, I was welcomed with kindness and love and I look forward to spending a lot more time there,” he said.

Love Truly also got involved in humanitarian projects while in Jamaica. His follow-up song, another reggae track, will include the voices of students from the Ras Astor Black School of Music and Arts in Falmouth.

A portion of its sales will go to the school for expansion and to purchase equipment.
