Portmore T20 cricket championship resumes today
AFTER a short holiday break the Wray & Nephew/Portmore Cricket Association Club T20 Championship resumes today with two key matches in Zone B at Bridgeport.
Defending champions Bridgeview sit third in the points standing on 12 points from five matches and will host powerhouse Belmont CC, who are in fifth position on nine points in a must-win match for both teams, if they are to secure one of two spots in the quarter-finals.
The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
Bridgeview seem to be the better of the two teams after winning two of their last three games, but they will be playing without two of their top players — Nkrumah Bonner and Andre Russell — who are engaged in national senior team training at Sabina Park.
But with the presence of former West Indies fast bowler Darren Powell to lead the bowling attack, and informed batsman Shacoya Thomas to open the batting, Bridgeview are favoured to win.
Belmont CC, who have lost three games so far, will have to rely mainly on Roshane Bird and Damion Jacobs to fire with bat and ball if they are going to have any chance of winning.
In the curtain-raiser at 9:30 am, joint leaders Colour’s International will do battle with the out-of-contention Silver Stone. Colour’s International are already through to the quarter-finals and are on 16 points from five games, but will surely get the better of their opponents who are seventh in the eight-team table on five points.
