Idris Elba dismisses rumours that he will play the next 007
Idris Elba has dismissed rumours that he will play the first black James Bond.
The actor appeared on ITV’s Lorraine, where he chatted about the Bond role, making a Luther film and the most challenging scene he’s played in his life.
The 41-year-old actor told Kate Garraway that he doesn’t understand the emphasis on Bond’s race, while he played down speculation that he will step into the shoes of Daniel Craig.
He said: “I’ve always detested the phrase ‘Black Bond’, I just don’t understand it.”
“We don’t say ‘White Bond’, we just say ‘Bond’ so it suddenly becomes a black man and he’s a ‘Black Bond’ so I hate that phrase and it’s a rumour that’s gotten out of control basically but that’s all it is. There’s no truth in it whatsoever.”
He also spoke about making a film of the hit series Luther, confirming that we can expect to see DCI John Luther on the big screen.
He said: “That is definitely on the cards, we’ve been really lucky that Luther is [so popular]… it’s a small show, we did four episodes and we got such a massive following worldwide so Neil Cross [creator of Luther] and I are aiming to do the film.
“I’m speaking to him as we speak… and we’re trying to pull it together. It’s an ambitious project because it’s a television show but we suspect that it’s going to be as successful on TV and on film as well.”
He also revealed the hardest role he has ever had to play, which was the title role in the film Mandela.

Hip-hop duo Outkast confirmed to reunite in April
The Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival is known for bringing back together some of music’s most beloved defunct groups and this year’s edition is no exception.
Producer Rico Wade has confirmed that André 3000 and Big Boi, better known as Outkast, will be gracing the stage at this year’s festival after a seven-year hiatus.
Fans of the group will have two opportunities to see the hip-hop group take the stage as the festival is held over two consecutive weekends in April.
Since 2007, they have been on hiatus and both members have pursued solo careers, although the group did do a label move to Epic Records in 2011.
The Ms Jackson group haven’t collaborated together since they created the soundtrack for the 2006 musical film Idlewild, but have been discussing getting back together for some time.
Outkast member Big Boi has previously stated: “It’s 20 years, man. We started out at 15, 16 years old. We made our first album when we were 17 years old. Twenty-five million records later, seven Grammys, I feel great.”
