Blast Them Away for Eileen Cliggott Mem Trophy
FOLLOWING a slight blip in his winning streak on last as a four-year-old, Blast Them Away returns to the races for the new season well prepared seeking to repair the damage in the $1,050,000 Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy (Graded Stakes three-year-old upward) call at Caymanas Park today.
The Eileen Cliggott is the penultimate race on the 10-race card that has attracted a decent field of seven going 1,300 metres and has a post time set at approximately 4:55 pm with first post at noon.
The progressive American-bred, who copped the Champion Imported Horse title of last year, is coming into the race on the back of a surprised three-and-half lengths loss to the former St Leger winner Commanding Chief in the Gold Cup going 1,400 metres on December 13.
And for the return of Blast Them Away for his five-year-old season, 13-time champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta has left nothing to chance as his champion imported horse will return in sparkling shape to make amends. Dick Cardenas has the call.
Despite being the class horse in the line-up but saddled with topweight of 57.0kg and giving away 7.0kg to his rivals, Blast Them Away is expected to receive strong challenges that could come from the local-bred Potcheen to be ridden by Omar Walker, his stable companions, Double The Honey, Rio Cobre and Italiano along with Kipling Weekend.
The Talawah Claiming Series (Race #2) among $180,000 claimers going 1,400 metres for a purse of $388,000 will call curtains on the local segment at approximately 5:25 pm.
