Veterans rock D’town
STELLAR performances highlighted the Dennis Brown Concert held at Downtown Kingston’s waterfront on Sunday.
Organised by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), the concert, now in its fifth year, pays tribute to Brown who died in 1999 at 42.
Sunday’s free concert drew a sizeable audience who were appreciative of the musicial offerings.
John Holt, who has been performing for over four decades, showed he had not lost his edge.
With the audience eating out of his palm, the veteran singer delivered a hit-filled set which included Police in Helicopter, Sweetie Come Brush Me and Stealing Stealing.
Johnny Clarke was also in fine form as he Moved Out A Babylon.
Special mention must be made of 2009 Rising Star winner, Shuga, whose command performance displayed her vocal range and confidence.
Marla Brown — daughter of late Dennis Brown, Crown Prince of Reggae — proved herself worthy by effortlessly offering renditions of her father’s songs to the audience’s delight.
When MC Junior Lincoln introduced Lloyd Parks and We The People Band about 9:00 pm, it was clear the audience would be in for added musicial treats.
Parks beamed as he Officially proved he was more than a bass guitarist.
Tony Rebel and George Nooks also gave great performances.
There were also excellent stints from rising artistes including Kabaka Pyramid, Nature and Prophesy. I Wayne also gave his trademark radical performance.
