LAST weekend’s season-opening 60m at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix out of the way, Jamaica’s Nesta Carter has set his sights on bettering the silver medal he won at the IAAF World Indoors Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, two years ago.

Carter was second to Great Britain’s James Dasaolu in Birmingham last weekend, running 6.53 seconds, and told the Jamaica Observer on Saturday that while he was not happy with the time, he was satisfied with the execution.

“We can’t be happy with second place,” the Moscow World Championships 100m bronze medallist said, “but based on what I have been doing in training, I am happy and the execution was good”.

Carter, who has a 60m Indoors personal best 6.59 seconds set at Birmingham two years ago, was named in Jamaica’s team to the IAAF World Indoors Championships on Sopot, Poland, next month, said: “Obviously I wanted to go faster, but that will come as I get more competition.”

He added: “It was obvious the other guys in the race were sharper than I was at the time.”

Carter joined his MVP teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in confirming he was hoping to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland later this year.

“Yes, the Commonwealth Games will be on the list of meets that I want to compete in this year, but first there are some other competitions to come and then we will see.”

Carter has won several relay gold medals for Jamaica as the specialist lead-off runner and after pulling up in the 100m final at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, in 2011, took the bronze two years later in Moscow.
