Morris captures Guardian General Flights Classic Golf tourney
THE Guardian General Insurance Flights Classic, which took place last weekend, came to an exciting close on Sunday at the Caymanas Golf Course in a playoff between Radcliff Knibbs and Sean Morris.
Knibbs and Morris, who have both represented Jamaica in the regional golf championships for several years, parred the first hole, despite a challenging start for Morris.
On the second play-off hole, Morris had the advantage and sank a birdie putt, while Knibbs was putting for par. The birdie cemented Morris’ hold on the title of overall champion, while Knibbs’ finish earned him the overall senior’s title.
First-time event sponsor, Guardian General Insurance Jamaica Limited (GGIJJ) representative Sheraley Bridgeman, assistant vice-president Business Development, lauded the players at the prize-giving, saying: “As a company that believes in sports development and overall wellness, this tournament has showcased the skill and dedication needed to play the sport or any sport.
“Golf is not a conventional sport, and we are glad to see men and women remain committed; as well as boys and girls playing instead of spending the time by their computers or televisions.”
