Shortwood fall as UWI surge in KSAFA Super League
SHORTWOOD FC suffered a shock defeat after falling to former basement team Allman-Woodford FC 3-1 at the Bell Chung Oval, while UWI remained unbeaten to move three points clear at the top of Zone B in the KSAFA Super League.
Shortwood entered the fourth round tied on seven points with UWI, who led with a superior goal difference. The loss was their first of the season and UWI capitalised on Shortwood’s defeat by claiming their third win of the season in a 2-0 victory away to Greenwich Town FC, courtesy of goals from Mark McKoy and Richard Crooks. UWI now lead with 10 points ahead of Shortwood on seven.
In the other Zone B encounter, Mountain View got past Real Mona 1-0 to claim their second victory from four outings. With the win Mountain View climbed above Real Mona (four points), into third place on six points. Allman-Woodford moved up to fifth place with four points following their first victory of the season, with Greenwich occupying last place on three points to round out Zone B.
In Zone A action, Police National were thrashed 4-0 by Santos. Maxfield Park squeezed out a 1-0 victory over Rae Town at Breezy Castle with Brown’s Town and Barbican playing out a 0-0 draw at the Barbican field.
The results mean that Brown’s Town remain unbeaten to lead the Zone with eight points, one more than Maxfield Park in second. Rae Town are in third, followed by Barbican, who are in fourth on goals scored. Santos’ victory lifted them off the foot of the table into fifth spot on four points with Police National being pushed a spot down into last on a meagre two points, and having conceded 11 goals from just four games.
The action in the Super League will continue on Saturday with a full slate of games.
In a top-of-the-table clash of Zone B, UWI will travel away to face Shortwood FC. Real Mona will host Allman-Woodford at Buttercup Park, and Greenwich will welcome Mountain View to Tinson Pen.
In Zone A, another top-of-the-table clash ensues with Maxfield Park hosting Brown’s Town at Maxfield. Rae Town will make the short trip to the Bell Chung Oval to face Santos, while Barbican are expected to get the better of Police National at the Barbican Field.
