More guns seized in East Kingston
THE Kingston Eastern Police and members of the Caribbean Search Centre (CSC) yesterday seized two firearms and several rounds of ammunition during an operation in Franklyn Town, East Kingston.
The find brings to four the number of firearms seized by police in the division in the last three days.
The Constabulary Communication Unit reported that a police team was conducting searches of premises within the area at about 2:00 am, when one Intratec handgun, thirty-one 9mm cartridges, one shotgun, a magazine and one 12-gauge round were seized.
They said a man taken into custody in connection with the find is to be questioned in the presence of an attorney.
Yesterday’s find came a day after an AK 47 assault rifle with a magazine containing three 7.62-mm cartridges was seized by police near a house in an area called Franklin Avenue. No one was arrested.
On Tuesday, the police seized an M16 rifle during an operation in McKintyre Villa, otherwise known as Dunkirk.
Communities in East Kingston have been the subject of intense focus by the police following the Valentine’s Day killings of two people, including a 17-month-old boy and the shooting and injury of a man and his common-law wife.
Yesterday, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington commended the officers for their continued fight to reduce crime and remove firearms from the nation’s streets.
