We are at one with that most experienced of sports administrators, Mr Mike Fennell, the long-serving head of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA).

We all should await the formal submission of the Court of Arbitration for Sport before seeking to comment directly on their decision to clear Mrs Veronica Campbell Brown of doping charges.

Meantime though, we believe it appropriate to join in welcoming the return of Mrs Campbell Brown to competition.

She has established herself among the very best of Jamaica’s track athletes during a period well in excess of a decade, going back to her time as a junior world champion.

Excellence on the track apart, Mrs Campbell Brown has consistently held the flag high with pride and dignity. We wish her well as she looks to close out her career with more glorious achievements.

Congrats Mr Coley

Congratulations are due to schoolboy football coach Mr Miguel Coley following his choice as assistant to Reggae Boyz head coach Mr Winfried Schaefer.

There are those who will see Mr Coley’s relative youth and inexperience as negatives.

On the other hand, Mr Schaefer, who has set himself the task of not only guiding the nation to World Cup qualification in 2018, but equally importantly, transformation of Jamaica’s football, obviously wants fresh thinking and youthful energy by his side.

Mr Schaefer, we believe, would have been impressed by Mr Coley’s Jamaica College (JC) team in the recent schoolboy season. Showing verve, creativity and tactical acumen, JC swept all before them.

It could well be that Mr Schaefer found Mr Coley’s football philosophy to be in tune with his own.

Certainly in the months ahead there will be plenty of opportunities for Mr Schaefer to seek to make clear his philosophy to those under his command, given the several friendly away games.

We are especially pleased with upcoming friendlies in the eastern Caribbean against Barbados and St Lucia.

It is crucial that the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) seek every opportunity to give the players exposure and to help the process of building chemistry.

Crucially too, everyone must show patience, allowing Mr Schaefer and his coaches to meticulously fit the pieces together as they look long-term to the start of the next World Cup qualifying campaign.

For right now, winning should not be the priority.
