Reno look to regain lead in Super League football
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Mid-season champions Reno FC will hope to return to the top of the points table in the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League today when they take on Montego Bay Boys’ Club at the UDC field in Montego Bay, starting at 3:30 pm.
Savannah SC assumed the leadership on Sunday after beating last-placed Norwood Strikers 2-0 at Frome and lead with 30 points from 14 games played, one more than Reno FC, who will play their 15th game today.
Reno FC are coming off a loss to Sandals Whitehouse last week but will be confident against a Boys’ Club team that has won once in their last 10 games.
Reno FC had beaten the promoted Boys’ Club 3-0 in their first round encounter and after losing to Sandals in the most recent game, will be eager to get three points today.
On Sunday, Ron Daley’s goal in the 20th minute and Owen Cunningham’s first of the season in the 70th carried Savannah SC to their second win over Norwood Strikers after winning their first round game 1-0 in Montego Bay.
Sandals Whitehouse stayed in third place despite losing 2-1 to Tomorrow’s People, who were winning for the first time in the second round to snap a four-game losing streak.
Tomorrow’s People, who avenged a first round loss at home, moved up to 24 points, one behind Sandals Whitehouse after the win.
Andre Atkinson gave the St James club the lead after 25 minutes before Delroy Phillips equalised in the 67th minute.
Curtis Palmer scored the winner for Tomorrow’s People in the 83rd minute, as they chalked up their seventh win and returned to a semi-final position.
Holland United continued their slow climb up the ladder and are in fifth position after a 1-0 win over Lucea FC to improve to 23 points.
Devroy Campbell’s 54th minute goal extended Holland United’s unbeaten run to three games during which time they won twice.
Defending champions Wadadah FC had to work hard for a 2-0 win over 10-man Village United at the UDC field, as they bounced back from a loss to Lucea FC last week.
Former national Under-17 representative Tyshan Hill scored from a well taken free kick in the 38th minute, while Garfield Duncan doubled the lead in the 78th minute when he lobbed the advancing Keith Hamilton in the Village goal.
Village United’s Nicholas Falconer was sent off for violent conduct mid-way the second half.
In the other game, Granville United and Duanvale drew 2-2 in Trelawny as Granville took the lead but had to come from behind to earn a point on the road.
Demar Dohman gave Granville the lead after 12 minutes, but Kevon Bartley equalised in the 39th minute before Oshane Brown gave the home team the lead in the 46th minute.
Oneil Pringle then produced an equaliser for Granville when he scored in the 55th minute.
