Just Another Friday wins Florida award
JUST Another Friday, the Jamaican gospel film, won an award for Most Inspirational Film at the Central Florida Christian Film Festival held in Altamonte Springs on February 23.
Filmed in Ocho Rios, the 102-minute flick is produced by BarriVision Productions in association with Jamaica Youth for Christ (JYFC).
“The most amazing thing about that weekend is that the audience was largely comprised of Caucasian senior citizens. And it was this audience that voted our film Most Inspirational. That is a huge achievement for us because it means that our film not only appeals and brings a poignant message to our own people but appeals to all ages and races,” Reverend Dexter Johnson, national director of JYFC told the Jamaica Observer.
Sherna Calvin, JYFC’s operations manager, said the award has given its Acts 12 Drama Ministry a boost.
“It’s really continuing on a path of excellence and it’s a launching pad for getting us in the various communities,” she said.
Just Another Friday stars gospel singer Deneese Wright and members of Acts 12.
The supporting cast draws heavily from the music fraternity. Lubert Levy, NexChange, poet Denise ‘Defy’ Fyffe and AJ Brown all have roles.
This is the second accolade for Just Another Friday. Last year, it won Best Jamaican Feature Film at the International Reggae Film Festival in Ocho Rios.
The drama is based on a play by Judith Falloon Reid-Brown.
