MBU hunt semi-final berth in St James KO
TUCKER, St James — Defending champions Montego Bay United will be seeking a semi-final place in the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout when the quarter-finals get under way today with two games.
Montego Bay United, the Red Stripe Premier League leaders, will host Western Confederation Super League outfit Tomorrow’s People at WespoW Park, starting at 3:00 pm, while another Super League team Wadadah FC will meet St James Senior League campaigners Lilliput Rovers at the UDC field.
Today’s winners will meet each other in the semi-finals, while the winner of next Thursday’s game between struggling Super League teams Norwood Strikers and Montego Bay Boys’ Club will meet Granville United FC, who drew a bye to the semi-finals.
A win against the winners of next week’s game would all but guarantee Granville a place in the all-island Flow Champions Cup KO if Montego Bay United should avoid an upset and advance to the final.
With all Premier League teams guaranteed a place in the Flow Champions Cup competition, the next best team in the competition in St James will also advance.
Montego Bay United had beaten Violet Kickers 2-0 in the previous round to advance, while Tomorrow’s People had blanked Paradise FC 5-0 in their second- round game.
Lilliput Rovers, who had famously knocked MBU out of the competition in the first round two seasons ago, had beaten Little Miami on penalties in the previous round, while Wadadah FC had eliminated Revelation FC 4-1.
