Buff Bay lift Under-17 crown
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — Javoy Belnavis’ eighth-minute strike was enough to land Buff Bay United the Portland FA Dr Lynvale Bloomfield Under-17 title when they edged Norwich Community Club 1-0 at Boundbrook Pavilion on Sunday.
Buff Bay started out the more offensive team, attacking through Tyrese Mathews, David Walters and captain Belnavis.
After a spell of pressure, they finally got their goal when Belnavis met a corner from teammate Carron Clarke with a firm header that beat Norwich custodian Garnette Reid at his near post.
Falling behind, Norwich launched several counter-offensive moves spearheaded by Dominic Fisher, Quran Graver, Jelani Thomas and Richardo Russell, but they met unwavering resistance from the Buff Bay backline.
Sponsor, Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, said he was “pleased with the level of play and the organisation”.
“This is a part of the developmental phase of football and the youths… I hope that some will go on to national and international duties as this is where it all begins. I am pleased to sponsor this completion and will continue,” he said.
