Marl Road off the mark in St James D-1
WESTGREEN, St James — Marl Road FC scored their first win in the St James Football Association Dennis Barton/Weston King Division One, snapping Heights FC’s perfect win record, winning 2-1 at Westgreen on Thursday.
Kerron Thompson’s first-half double helped Marl Road avenge their first-round 3-2 loss at the UDC field and took them off the bottom of the tables in Zone A and into third place.
Thompson scored in the 12th and 32nd minutes to rock Heights FC back on their heels, while Ricardo Wilson pulled one back for Heights in the 57th minute, but there was no coming back for Heights FC as their brilliant start came to an end.
Heights are still leaders in Zone A with 12 points despite the loss, well ahead of second-placed Copperwood FC on six points, with Marl Road and Westgreen FC on five points each and Granville City on three after their 1-1 draw against Copper Wood also on Thursday.
Mathew Shaw gave Copper Wood the lead in the 14th minute, but Dexter Smith equalised for Granville City two minutes later.
In another game on Thursday, Irwin FC edged Salt Spring Roses 1-0, thanks to a 29th-minute goal from Texroy Egbert.
