Intercol students excited about FISU forum
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — The Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association will be represented by two students at the 12th FISU (International University Sports Federation) Forum being held in Gwangju, South Korea, starting today through to Saturday.
The students are Nadette Grant and Delta Wright from Edna Manley College of the Visual Arts, and University of Technology, Jamaica, respectively.
The forum — themed along issues related to ethics, social media, sustainable development, leadership — will provide the grounds for thought-provoking discussions leading to the enhancement of the status and development of
university sports.
Grant, who is a final-year student at the school of drama completing her Bachelor Degree in Drama and Education and a graduate of Edwin Allen High School, says she intends to take full advantage of the opportunity.
“I see this forum as a very good opportunity to expose myself as a dramatist and also a facilitator of drama, get more exposure culturally and taking my craft of acting and performing to another arena and showcasing my talent as an actress or cultural icon for my country,” she said.
Wright, too, is excited by the propsects.
“I am looking forward to this forum and the cultural exchanges, networking and how other students view university sports. I am looking forward to taking back new ideas from other universities, what they have done in their country to develop university sports that we can utilise and hopefully getting one or two to visit us,” she said.
This is the first time Intercol has any student attending the forum.
