Nelson, Ellis in ‘Cat’ war
THE seventh race on Saturday turned out to be a thriller as two of the leading riders in the land, Dane Nelson on Double De Cat and Shane Ellis on the 4/5 favourite Tooting Kat engaged in a tug of war.
With Double De Cat going well on the outside rails coming down the five straight, Tooting Cat, who was drawn at post position three, came sharply across in rapid time to impede the progress of Nelson and Double De Cat who at that time looked the likely winner.
In fact, Tooting Kat actually bumped into Double De Cat.
This incident paved the way for Clearly Ours (Jemar Jackson) to win, with Tooting Kat second and Double De Cat third. A stewards’ inquiry then followed and, as most present at the track expected, Tooting Kat was disqualified and placed third with Double De Cat moving to second.
Nelson was not a happy man on his return to unsaddle.
