PHILIP Feanny’s major trump card for the 2014 Classic season, the reigning Horse of the Year Princess Popstar is missing from action in the fillies 1,000 Guineas opening Classic.

The Classic winning maestro, however, has another good shot at victory with his Bubbling Angeline. The daughter of new ‘kid on the block’, imported stallion, Blue Pepsi Lodge out of Miss Angeline (Traditional) and owned by Hamark Farms, is let loose in search of her first major Classic win.

She heads a competitive field of 12 three-year-old fillies, who are entered for today’s Classic test.

The 1,600 metres event is carded as the ninth and penultimate race that headlines the 10-race card. Post time is scheduled at approximately 5:00 pm with first post at 12:15 pm.

Bred by Everglades Farms, Bubbling Angeline began her racing career on a winning note as a two-year-old and was beaten by her illustrious stablemate Princess Popstar when racing for the second time. Winning twice and losing twice as a two-year-old, Bubbling Angeline is undefeated as a three-year-old from three starts while campaigning at the Overnight Allowance level.

In her prep race for the 40th running of the $3,250,000 1,000 Guineas sponsored by CD Alexander, the progressive filly posted a commanding victory, drawing off by eight lengths against a number of rivals in today’s contest.

Outside of the matriarch of the group, Princess Popstar, the field taking part in the futurity call today is about the best three-year-old fillies in racing at present and despite the pre-eminence of the morning line favourite, she is expected to have a fight on her hand to prevail.

Bubbling Angeline, with the leading Classic jockey Winston Griffiths in the irons, has already taken care of some of her major opposition except one – the highly thought of Street Dancer.

This one is not really fashionably bred, but in her two undefeated runs, has shown enough spunk to attract attention. Dick Cárdenas, who is himself a Classic winning rider, gets the call from leading and champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.

He will also saddle Also Correct, who will enjoy the extended distance with Shane Ellis in the saddle. Another, who will also enjoy 1,600 metres is the Fitzroy Glispie part-owned and trained Raeven Renae, the mount of Richard Mairs.

Dane Nelson, the champion jockey and leading rider, gets the call aboard Black Thorn for trainer Patrick Chang. The daughter of Shuffling Madness out of The Medic mare Black Thatch possesses the pedigree to feature here. She has trained well enough to be competitive, but may just lack the class. However, in the hands of the champion rider, may run much better than expected.
