Wolmer’s, Eltham to contest KO final
FAST bowler Malcolm Whyte took five wickets for 26 runs to guide Wolmer’s to a 44-run win over St Jago in their JIIC Knockout semi-final game at St Jago yesterday.
The lanky seamer, who represents Jamaica’s Under-19 team, was too good for the St Jago batsmen, as he consistently got the ball in the right areas.
Scores: (Wolmer’s 187; St Jago 144 ).
Wolmer’s batting first got off to a flying start and were scoring at seven runs per over before they lost Malik Thompson, who went caught and bowled to Dillon Foster for 19 with the score at 36 for one.
Sadique Henry then joined Hodane Bryce in the middle and the two took the score to 68, before Henry was adjudged leg-before-wicket for 14 to be the first of Andre Fowler’s five victims.
Suwayne Morrison came and went for three after he nipped one to wicketkeeper Ryan Harris off the bowling of Fowler with the score at 84 for three.
Captain Denniel Griffiths was run out for 12 with the score at 113 for four, and Amir Dalley went in a similar fashion for 10 with the score at 144 for four. The innings was then wrapped up at 187 from 36.4 overs, as Elvoy Bennett went caught for five, so too did Hakeem Williams for a duck. Joel Battick was left not out on three.
Skipper Fowler led the bowling with five for 28, supported by Dillon Foster, who took two for 40.
St Jago in their reply got off to a bad start, when Malcolm Whyte bowled a beautiful second delivery that went right through the defence of Nicholas Simpson with no run on the board. Whyte then had Ryan Harris caught behind for seven with the score at 12 for two.
Andre Fowler and Roderick Clifford then took the score to 57, before the latter hit one back over the head of bowler Suwayne Morrison and was caught by Malik Thompson for 15.
Fowler then looped one up and was easily caught by wicket-keeper Bryce for 30 off the bowling of left-arm spinner Denniel Griffiths with the score at 76 for four. Chad Morgan became the next victim at 86 for five, when he went caught behind off the bowling of Morrison for 13.
Dillon Foster tried to increase the tempo and went for a big hit off bowler Amir Dalley, but failed in his bid and was stumped by Bryce with the score at 101 for six. Sachin Taylor and Sanjay Clunis then added 24 to the total before Clunis went leg-before-wicket to Whyte for 17 with the score at 135 for seven. Mark Blake came and went for two to leave the score at 137 for eight.
Taylor was later bowled by Dalley for 24 before Whyte removed Dushane Carthy to wrap up the innings at 143. Kemar Scott was left not out on naught.
