Down to the wire!
It will be down to the wire with three teams chasing the two remaining places in the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League as the regular season ends on Sunday.
Former two- time champions Granville United, Tomorrow’s People and Sandals Whitehouse will seek to join semi-final qualifiers Savannah SC and Reno FC when the top four gets underway next weekend.
With one round of matches to go on Sunday before the end of the regular season, Granville United are in third place on 38 points after winning their last four games; Tomorrow’s People are in fourth place with Sandals Whitehouse, which were promoted to the league this season in fifth place on 35 points.
Granville will only need a point from their game against Montego Bay Boys Club at the UDC field to return to the semi-finals, while Tomorrow’s People and Sandals Whitehouse will need wins against outgoing champions Wadadah FC and demoted Norwood Strikers respectively, to stay in the hunt.
Savannah SC leads with 44 points, two more than Reno FC’s 42 both of which have secured places in the semi-finals already.
The fight for survival is just as intense as three teams will be trying to avoid joining Norwood Strikers, Duanvale FC and Lucea FC.
Holland United, Montego Bay Boys Club and Village United are trying to avoid the drop.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, Wadadah FC’s reign as champions came to an end after they were knocked out of the semi-finals following a 1-0 loss to mid-season champions Reno FC at the UDC field.
Delano Rankine’s 33rd minute goal sealed Wadadah’s FC fate, while securing a place in the semi-finals, as the home team missed a spate of chances, especially in the second half.
Orane Gaynor scored twice to lead Granville United to a 3-1 win over Lucea FC at Granville; Gaynor scored in the 2nd and 83rd minutes, while Oniel Pringle scored in the 90th minute. Davion Myers scored the lone goalfor Lucea FC.
Meanwhile at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth, Montego Bay Boys Club took a step towards securing their place next season, when they beat Village United 2-0 with a double from Leroy Christie in the 30th minute and in time added at the end of the game.
