MONTEGO BAY, St James — Wadadah FC’s reign as champions of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain’s Bakery and Grill/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League, will come to an end following the return round as they will not make it to the semi-finals for a fourth straight season, after being beaten 1-0 by Reno FC at the UDC field on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss was Wadadah FC’s sixth of the season and extended their winless run to three straight games and four of their last five as they remained stuck on 33 points in sixth position, and even a win in Sunday’s rescheduled game against Tomorrow’s People would not be sufficient to see them qualify for the semi-finals.

On Tuesday as Wadadah FC squandered several scoring chances, Reno FC grabbed a win that saw them secure their spot in the semi-finals along with leaders Savannah SC, as three other teams — Granville United, Tomorrow’s People and Sandals Whitehouse will battle for the other two spots.

Reno FC’s win saw them improve to 42 points, two behind Savannah SC and ensured that both Westmoreland clubs will finish in the top two positions in the points table, and will avoid each other in the semi-finals.

Delano Rankine’s 33rd-minute goal was the tiebreaker in the game, as Reno FC snapped a two-game losing skid, their first in two seasons, as they beat a flat-looking Wadadah FC in front of a disappointed home crowd.

Granville United won for the fourth straight game, beating relegated Lucea FC 3-1 in Granville to move into third place and a point away from a semi-final place.

Orane Gaynor scored a double to lead Granville United, netting in the second and 83rd minutes; Davion Myers had equalised for Lucea FC in the 35th minute, but Oneil Pringle secured the full points when he scored in the 90th minute as time ran out.

Montego Bay Boys’ Club, meanwhile, took a big step towards securing a place in the league next season with a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Village United 2-0 in Falmouth.

Leroy Christie scored both goals for Montego Bay Boys’ Club in the 30th minute, and two minutes into time added at the end of the game, as the promoted club inched away from the drop zone into eighth place on 27 points.

Three teams, Norwood Strikers of St James, Duanvale FC of Trelawny, and Lucea FC of Hanover have all been relegated, while Village United, Boys’ Club, and Holland United are all seeking to avoid the drop.
