Queen Paula’s next racing assignment will be in three weeks when she again races against her three-year-old peers in the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks scheduled to be run on Saturday April 26.

This follows her outstanding win in the 1,000 Guineas last Saturday at Caymanas Park when she overturned the form book and handicaps to score over Black Thorn and the howling favourite Bubbling Angeline going a mile.

Trainer, owner and breeder of Queen Paula, Lorenzo Robinson confirmed that his filly had come out of the Guineas well and would be prepared to run in the Oaks.

“The filly came out of the race on her toes. She returned to the stables feeling good and took no time in eating out. Queen Paula is in fine fettle after her win in the 1,000 Guineas,” Robinson told the Complete Racing Guide.

Robinson strongly believes that the extra two furlongs of the Oaks when compared with the Guineas will prove an advantage for Queen Paula. “Based on how she has progressed especially since the start of the year, 10 furlongs should not be a problem for her as despite going with the leaders on Saturday, she moved away quite well in the straight.”

The owner, trainer and breeder of the 2014 – 1,000 Guineas winner further informed that jockey Andre Martin would continue his association with Queen Paula.

“The decision to choose Martin came one early morning when I was on my way to the racetrack for exercise when the realisation hit me that ‘Fanna’ (Winston Griffiths) would not do duties in the Guineas. I thought about it and after thinking through all the possibilities, I made the decision to ask Andre to ride Queen Paula in the 1,000. I happy he agreed.

“Martin is a very good rider. He understands pace well and is able to execute with precision come race day. I believe he is an under rated rider and it is my hope that the Classic win on Queen Paula will have a stabilizing influence and also a catalyst for his riding career,” Robinson said while again underscoring that ‘Martin is a good rider.”
