Salt Marsh United to make Confed League debut

Salt Marsh United to make Confed League debut

FALMOUTH, TRELAWNY — SALT Marsh United will contest the Western Confederation Super League for the first time next season after winning their first Trelawny Football Association’s National Rums of Jamaica Major League, beating Kinloss FC 5-3 on penalty kicks at the Elliston Wakeland Centre on Sunday.

After both teams were unable to score during 200 minutes of football over both legs of the finals plus extra time, it took one missed penalty from Kinloss FC’s Warren Dixon to make the difference and deny his team their first hold on the title.

Salt Marsh United which were winning three straight titles, took home the Major League title as well as $200,000 cash award. They gained promotion to the Major League after winning the Division One title last season, then won the mid-season final this year, beating Prospect Link 2-0.

Salt Marsh United which previously competed as Preston United also avenge an earlier loss to Kinloss FC, when they lost 1-0 in a third round cross-zone game.

Meanwhile, Upsetters also copped the double as they added the Division One title to the mid-season title after beating Baca Star United 2-0 on Sunday for a 2-1 aggregate over both legs.
