DIAS, Hanover — The Dalmally Basic School in Dias, Hanover, recently hosted its inaugural Career Day activities.

“It was our first year and it was a success, I must say. We all enjoyed ourselves and the parents were proud to see their children out,” said Jalecea Jones, a teacher at the school.

Jones said she saw the need to stage the event as a means of enlightening the students in choosing a career path in the future.

“I saw the need for it, so as to get them more aware of what is happening, and at a tender age as now, it is good for them, to enlighten them, to see what they want in the future,” she explained.

The school presently has a population of 74 students.

Of this amount, 20 participated in the Career Day activities, dressing-up in various uniforms which depicted career professionals such as nurses, doctors, teachers, fire fighters, police and soldiers.

Jones told the Jamaica Observer West that the school received full support from the parents, some of whom went as far as Kingston to purchase materials used to make the uniforms.

She commended the parents for their interest and participation, adding that the day’s activities went perfect.

The teacher further added that the school is looking forward to the second staging of the event next year, promising that it will be bigger and better.
