JLo get World Cup nod
NEW YORK (AP) — Not so fast: JLo is performing at the World Cup after all.
Jennifer Lopez said in an interview with The Associated Press that she is flying to Brazil on Tuesday night to perform during the tournament’s opening ceremony yesterday.
“I’m coming. We always were going,” she said. “I think people get anxious, especially with me and my schedule when I’m like, `Ah, OK, I can leave this day, that day, I don’t know if we can make it.'”
“People get nervous and I think it was a little bit premature to announce anything,” she said. “But we are definitely going.”
FIFA officials announced earlier this week that the singer wouldn’t perform the official tune “We Are One (Ole Ola)” alongside Pitbull and Claudia Leitte. But Lopez said they will perform before Brazil takes on Croatia at todday’s opening game in Sao Paulo.
Lopez said the World Cup song was orchestrated by Pitbull, who invited her to join on the track.
“I can’t take credit for this. This was one of Pitbull’s call-ins,” said Lopez, who has collaborated with the rapper on the hits On the Floor and Dance Again.
“He had this record and he’s like, `I think this record could be great for the World Cup,” she recalled. “He’s like, `Will you do it with me?’ And I go, `Yeah, of course.'”
Lopez added: “I’m so lucky that he gave me the opportunity.”
The 44-year-old singer, who’s from the Bronx, is also busy promoting her new album, AKA, to be released next week.
FX awaits Tracy Morgan’s recovery
NEW YORK (AP)– FX Networks says that Tracy Morgan’s new series is waiting for him once he’s well, but that his recovery is all that matters now.
Tuesday’s statement updates the status of the TV project planned for the comic who was critically injured in a highway crash Saturday in New Jersey.
Morgan’s recovery is expected to take weeks. The company says that whenever he decides he is ready to work, “his show will be waiting for him.”
His half-hour comedy was scheduled to start filming in August for a January premiere on the FXX network.
Morgan suffered a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs when a tractor-trailer rig smashed into his chauffeured limo bus. One passenger was killed. Three others were injured.
Sharapova aces another Avon fragrance
NEW YORK (AP)– New French Open champion Maria Sharapova has something else to celebrate: a new fragrance.
The tennis ace is the face of Avon Luck, for men and women. It’s her first partnership with the beauty brand, but not her first perfume; she launched an eponymous one with Parlux nearly 10 years ago.
Avon Luck will be launched in Europe in September and then will be rolled out in North America and Asia after that.
Sharapova says Avon Luck will encourage people to “savor and truly enjoy our triumphs,” which is what she’s been doing lately. She won her fifth Grand Slam title with her French Open victory over Simona Halep last Saturday.
