Six questions for Levi Dixon
LEVI Dixon is a fast-food operator in the town of Lucea, Hanover.
For more than two decades, Dixon and his wife Vilma Baugh-Dixon, have tried their hands at several business ventures, starting with Every Little Things store in Montego Bay, St James.
They, however, decided to close the apparel business in 2003 against the background of declining sales and massive losses.
But prior to the closure, the couple — with funding from a financial institution in Lucea — started what is now a well-known restaurant and snack shop in Lucea named Tappa Top, selling a wide variety of tasty dishes and snacks.
That business has now been in operation for the past 18 years.
Dixon emphasised that over the years his wife has been his tower of strength.
His motto is: “Only the best is good enough.”
OBS WEST: Why did you venture into the fast-food business?
LD: Food is always needed, plus my wife is a good cook. I also feel more comfortable with the food business.
OBS WEST: How are sales going in this time of severe economic challenges?
LD: There are good times and bad times. My first business (apparel store) left me in millions of dollars of debt, but the food business balanced out things.

LD: Clean surroundings and good-quality food.
OBS WEST: Do you have any plans to expand the business?
LD: Yes. I’m currently working on expanding the business by using a specialised vehicle that will take meals to various locations across Hanover.
OBS WEST: What advice do have for persons thinking of going into business?
LD: Make sure you have knowledge of the type of business venture you are getting into, have a hands-on approach and love what you are doing. You must also have pride and confidence in what you are doing.
