Mexican band to close Ochie Jazz Fest
This Sunday, the shell bandstand at Hope Gardens in St Andrew, will be the venue for the final event of the 24-year-old Jamaica Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival.
The event, which every year invite families to bring out the fathers to celebrate their special day, will feature acts from abroad and here in Jamaica.
Among the acts to perform are the Mexican band Pie Grande. The band recorded their first album Vive Latino Fest, in January 2011 and has performed live with international Latino stars such as Aaron Cruz, Hernian Hecht and Enrigue Neri, among others.
Other actsfor the Father’s Day show include Trumpeter Joe Sizemore and his band; North Carolina musicians Garth and Erich Haas, vocalist Alan Stoumen out of North Carolina, as well as the Carolina Jazz and Blues Collaborative, featuring ace drummer Joe Van Norman.
Local acts include the Ralph Holding Quartet, and Mike’s All Star Jazz Band from Portland.
The organisers of the event are urging patrons to take umbrellas, blankets and portable chairs for their own comfort while enjoying the show.
