Sophia Squire doubles up
VP RECORDS has released a double EP from singer Sophia Squire. Disc one, Chapter 1 Rhythm and Soul, contains four tracks: Secret Lovers, For a While, Slow Motion and Thing Called Love.
Disc two is titled Chapter 2 Roots Rock Reggae and has five tracks including Nature’s Calling, Nah Fight Ova Man, Rat-A-Tat-A-Tat and Nuh Gunz.
According to Squire’s manager, Audley ‘Breddy’ Allen, the EP is a precursor to her debut album which is currently in production.
Two years ago, Squire rode airwaves with the song Love Can’t Pay the Bills which featured deejay Rich Ras.
Originally from Spanish Town, she went into music full-time after completing studies at the Eastern School of Commerce and Undergrad College.
“I have always wanted to do music. I sang on the church choir and always tried performing around the community,” she said.
Squire started recording in the 1990s for producer Kenneth Rose, but it was not until she did the track Bloody Murder in 2007, for producer Shane Brown, that the mother of two children got serious attention.
“The journey has been good and bad. It has its ups and its downs. The love that I have for the music is the good part,” she pointed out.
Squire is scheduled to perform on Reggae Sumfest’s International Night Part 1 on July 18.
