Toyota JA gives back
COME September, one lucky school could win a new 16-seater Hiace bus courtesy Toyota Jamaica Limited’s ‘Bus Di School’ competition.
According to Howard Foster, Toyota Jamaica sales and marketing director, the contest springs from the company’s many social initiatives that used to include the agricultural sector.
“Our managing director, Tom Conner, felt we could help support education and this would be a good way to do so,” Foster told Auto.
The company is aware of the impact that transportation could have not only in terms of cost to the school budget, but as well as lost opportunities for students.
“It’s about the children having the ability to get around for various activities, like field trips, sports events, educational conferences, or even basic interschool competitions,” Foster added.
The Toyota Hiace is valued at approximately $6 million and comes with free insurance for a year. Along with that, a year’s free service from Toyota Jamaica, and 12 months tracking service.
The contest runs until June 30 and is open to all registered schools, primary through high. Principals are invited to apply with a detailed letter as to the need for and planned use of the bus. The top 10 entries will then be posted to Toyota Jamaica’s Facebook page where they can be voted on.
“The judging process will be done over the summer. Facebook will account for 20 per cent of the points, the rest will come from a panel of judges that includes the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Youth and Culture,” Foster explained.
