Whistleblower hotline unveiled at Congress
SAO PAULO, Brazil (CMC) – CONCACAF has unveiled a new “whistleblower hotline”, designed to identify and eliminate irregularities in the game.
This was announced here Tuesday as the confederation staged its 29th Ordinary and 20th Extraordinary Congresses, just three days ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup.
According to the newly created Sports Integrity Department which presented its first ever report, the hotline was a mechanism by which reports on irregularities in the game could be reported by all stakeholders.
Webb, who has made governance and integrity top priority since taking up the presidency two years ago, hailed the new initiative.
“The integrity of the game will remain one of our highest priorities. This is a huge challenge and the biggest threat to the game, potentially impacting every single member of CONCACAF,” Webb pointed out.
“Protecting our beautiful game means that we must all share in one common goal, which is to ensure zero tolerance and embrace all aspects of integrity.”
The meeting was attended by all 41 member associations and saw the approval of several amendments to the confederation’s statutes, including the Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct, the composition of the CONCACAF Disciplinary Committee and formalisation of the existing CONCACAF Audit and Compliance Committee.
The Congress was attended by FIFA president Sepp Blatter along with Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
Webb urged confederation members to continue to reflect the highest levels of efficiency, integrity and transparency, as they continue to rebuild their various associations.
“One Vision, One Future, One CONCACAF, is our focus today, but also, it must be our long-term commitment. We have rebuilt our foundation; now let us move forward to continue the good work,” Webb told delegates.
CONCACAF is the continental governing body for football in North, Central America and the Caribbean.
