CARDIFF, Wales (CMC) — Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy played a key role to earn Glamorgan a tie against Kent in an enthralling encounter in the English T20 Blast here on Friday.

Playing at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan piled up 177 for seven off their 20 overs after being sent in, with captain Jim Allenby top-scoring with 54 from 37 balls. He put on 76 for the second wicket with Mark Wallace, who struck 33 from 22 deliveries.

Chris Cooke struck 34 from 25 balls, while Sammy hit an unbeaten 19 from 17 balls, with one six and a four, to boost the total late on.

Veteran seamer Darren Stevens took three for 22.

In their turn at the crease, Kent found themselves needing just three from the last over to win the match, but lost three wickets and managed just two runs. With one needed off the last ball, Australian Doug Bollinger was run out trying to scamper a single.

Earlier, Sammy rocked Kent, finishing with two for 29 from his four overs. He removed both openers cheaply to leave the visitors on 34 for two in the fourth over.

Kent limped to 76 for four after 10 overs, still requiring a further 102 to win but Stevens smashed 71 from a mere 39 balls to get his side in front before Glamorgan held their nerve in the last over.

Seamer Michael Hogan, entrusted with the last over, claimed two for 30.
